Boundaries not Battles

Setting limits with warmth and connection

A fun and practical workshop with Dr Amrit Khera & Katy Linsley – Certified Hand in Hand Instructors

Parenting doesn’t have to feel this hard.

If every request turns into a battle, and you’re stuck between being too strict or giving in, you’re not alone.

There is a calmer, kinder middle way — one that helps children listen without yelling, threats, or guilt.

Hand in Hand Parenting gives you practical tools to set limits, handle big feelings, and enjoy your children again and we would LOVE to share them with YOU.

Does this feel like your house right now?

You ask and ask… and still nothing happens.

No teeth brushed, no shoes on, you’re late out the door (again) and bedtime is exhausting. Every single thing feels like a battle.

Sound familiar?

You love your children more than anything, but lately you’re thinking

Why is this so hard?

What am I doing wrong?

Am I just a rubbish parent?

If that’s you, take a breath. We’re here for YOU.

You are not failing — and no, family life is not meant to feel like one long struggle.

What you’ll learn in the workshop

Let US support YOU in this workshop.

This workshop is practical, supportive, and grounded in real family life.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Say no in a way your child can accept
  • Respond when big feelings show up
  • Reduce daily battles around routines and transitions
  • Stay calmer when your child is upset
  • Feel confident again in your parenting

The no-win choices parents often face

Most parents feel pushed into choosing between two approaches

Be strict

Show them who’s boss. Enforce the rules. Push through.

It works … briefly. And then it doesn’t feel good.

Give in

Keep everyone happy. Avoid tears. Say yes when you mean no.

That works too — until you feel walked over, resentful, and suddenly yelling.

Neither option brings the calm, connected family life we’re longing for.

What parents are really looking for

Most parents we work with aren’t trying to be perfect.

They’re looking for the Goldilocks spot:

Not too harsh. Not too permissive. Just right.

A way to:

  • Say no without yelling
  • Hold boundaries without guilt
  • Get cooperation without threats or bribes
  • Stay connected, even when emotions run high

The middle way: Parenting by Connection

There is another way.

Parenting by Connection shows you how to set clear limits while staying warm, calm, and connected.

This approach comes from Hand‑in‑Hand Parenting and supports both the child and the parent.

We don’t have to choose between being kind and being firm.

We can be both.

No charts. No sticker systems.

Just tools you can use straight away.

Meet Your facilitators

These workshops will be led by us, Amrit and Katy. We’re parents and parenting coaches who care deeply about supporting families through the real, messy moments of parenting.

We’re friends as well as colleagues, and we’re excited to be offering this workshop together, in person, in each of our home cities.

We both came to Hand in Hand Parenting after feeling exhausted, unsure, and overwhelmed by our children’s big emotions. What we found were practical tools, deep understanding, and a sense of connection — with our children and with ourselves.

Amrit is a GP working in Walsall, and Katy is an ex-teacher and childcare professional, living in Lancaster, and we’re now both certified Hand in Hand Parenting Instructors. Together, we bring professional insight, lived experience, and a warm, compassionate approach to the very real work of parenting.

We’re building this space together — a place where parents feel supported, understood, and not alone, as we learn ways to bring more calm, confidence, and connection into our family lives.

“Katy and Amrit created a warm and safe environment for us to share our experiences and challenges. They are amazing listeners, and their guidance helped me apply the Hand in Hand tools in real life.”
