Practical tools for big emotions — and support for the parents holding them
Small groups, warmly held
Parenting can feel hard sometimes — even when you’re doing your very best.
When tantrums, bedtime battles, or power struggles take over, it can start to feel like nothing you do is working. You may have read the books, tried the tools, and still find everything unraveling at the end of a long day.
This course offers clear, practical Hand in Hand tools to help children release big emotions — alongside calm, non-judgemental support, so you can use them with confidence.
If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place
Parenting is full-on at the best of times. Add exhaustion, old triggers being pressed, and the constant juggling of work and home life — and even the most loving parent can feel overwhelmed.
This Foundations Course is a place to slow things down. To understand what’s really going on underneath behaviour, and to be supported as the parent holding it all.
You don’t need to be at breaking point. You don’t need to be “new” or already fluent in Hand in Hand. Whether you’re just discovering these ideas or have been trying the tools for a while, you’re warmly welcome here.
Parents often arrive looking for help with behaviour. They leave feeling more connected, more capable — and far less alone.

What this course is (and what it isn’t)
This is a foundations course, which means we start at the beginning — gently, clearly, and without assuming you already “know the right thing to do”.
It is:
- Practical, attachment-based tools you can use straight away
- Grounded in brain science and emotional development
- Kind to both children and the adults who love them
- Designed to help you understand what behaviour is really communicating
It isn’t:
- A quick-fix behaviour programme
- A system that expects you to be calm, regulated, and patient at all times
- A place where anyone tells you what you should be doing
If you’re looking for stickers, charts, or magic phrases that stop emotions — this probably isn’t your course.
If you’re curious about what helps emotions move through, and how connection changes everything, you’re in the right place.
(Also: you’re allowed to laugh here. We do. Often.)
What it’s like to be in a group with me
I’m Katy — and I don’t take myself too seriously.
I care deeply about this work, and I also know that parenting can be absurd, exhausting, and occasionally darkly funny. Our sessions usually include insight, honesty, relief, and more than a few moments of “oh wow, same”.
Groups are small — no more than six parents — so everyone is seen, heard, and supported. You won’t be put on the spot, fixed, analysed, or judged.
I hold the space calmly and warmly, and I’ll meet you exactly where you are — whether you’re brand new to Hand in Hand or you’ve been dabbling for years and want things to actually make sense.
You don’t need to perform.
You don’t need to get it right.
You just need to show up as you are.

“Before the course, I was very aware of what I felt I was ‘failing’ at.
Being in Katy’s group gave me space to share honestly, hear others’ experiences, and think about how I actually want to parent. Each session offered a practical tool alongside thoughtful discussion.
Katy has a lovely presence — warm, calm, and very knowledgeable. I left feeling clearer, more confident, and supported.”
— Rachel, mum of two
What you’ll begin to notice
Parents often come because something feels hard: tantrums, bedtime battles, aggression, sibling stuff, power struggles, or that constant feeling of “why isn’t this working?”
What many notice — sometimes surprisingly — is a shift in themselves first.
You may begin to feel:
- Calmer in the hard moments (not perfect — just steadier)
- More confident in what your child actually needs
- Less alone with your worries and doubts
- More able to repair when things go wrong (because they will)
Children often respond with:
- Fewer explosions — or shorter recoveries
- More cooperation over time
- More softness, play, and connection
Not because they’re being managed — but because they feel safer.
“Parenting is the hardest job I’ve ever done. I had no idea it would be this hard.
This course helped me see my children differently — and honestly, love them more. Instead of seeing wilful defiance, I see a child who is struggling. Instead of seeing my failure as a parent, I see a woman who is really trying her best.
Katy is a truly brilliant instructor. She held the space in such a calm, loving way. I feel changed by this experience, and I have a new lease of life as a parent.”
— Alice, mum of two

A gentle invitation
You don’t need to be at breaking point to come.

You don’t need to change who you are as a parent.
If something in you is quietly saying “I want support that feels kind, sensible, and human” — that’s enough.
